Harvard University’s Division of Continuing Education (DCE), and VictoryXR, a metaverse education company, announced today a collaboration to create and deploy a digital twin of the Harvard DCE campus for students to learn, explore and engage with labs in Virtual Reality.

“Harvard DCE’s leadership is a beacon to the rest of the world on the impact virtual worlds are likely to have for the next generation of students,” said Steve Grubbs, CEO of VictoryXR. “This will be the place where online learning intersects with hands-on learning.”

DCE’s twin will be a replica of existing campus buildings, with portals to learning labs and 360 field trips, and will be built utilizing existing specs, photographs of buildings, and Google Earth. The digital twin is expected to be ready to pilot via DCE’s Teaching and Learning Team during the upcoming fall semester and will be accessible through virtual reality headsets, web browsers and PCs.

“Digital twin technology allows for learning advancements never before possible,” said Christian Wisecarver, Director of DCE’s Innovation Team. “Our on-campus, online, and on-demand students will be able to learn together in an equitable fashion, while pushing the boundaries of what is possible in online learning. In short, this exciting, emerging technology will allow us to bring the Harvard DCE experience to students all over the world.”
